This section features a series of tools that health care providers can utilize in their clinics and share with patients. These tools include posters, an HIV window period calculator, and resources to guide discussions about HIV PrEP, herpes and HPV.
Calculating HIV window periods
Oct 29, 2018This HIV window period calculator tool was developed to help clinicians discussing HIV testing with individuals who may have been exposed to HIV. The tool should be used when an individual can give an approximate date of when they were potentially exposed to HIV. It is not useful for people who have unprotected sex or other higher risk sexual activities on a regular basis.
Herpes: Health Care Provider's Guide
Oct 29, 2018This 18-page colour booklet was developed to support health care providers giving herpes diagnoses to patients. It focuses on understanding emotional reactions to a herpes diagnosis and talking to patients about herpes using non-stigmatizing language. It also includes a series of frequently asked questions and suggested answers, as well as herpes supports and counselling resources.

Make Syphistory! Syphilis campaign posters
Oct 29, 2018These posters have been created for the Make Syphistory campaign. The goals of the campaign are to raise health literacy around syphilis and to encourage frequent testing in the target audience (gay, bisexual, queer and other men who have sex with men). The posters are formatted for 11 x 17, and can be downloaded and printed for use in your clinic, health centre or other area.









SmartSexResource posters
Oct 29, 2018These posters were developed to increase awareness of SmartSexResource as a provincial resource for people in BC with questions about sexual health. Each poster is formated to be printed on 11" x 17" paper. These posters can be used in clinics, health centres, community centres, schools, etc. to promote SmartSexResource. Copies of these posters can also be ordered from the BC Centre for Disease Control by emailing SmartSexResource.

Oct 29, 2018A larger version of the SmartSexResource STIs at a Glance chart (found in the About STIs section), formatted for printing as an 11" x 17" poster. Print for use in your clinic, office, classroom or to give to patients.

SmartSexResource Testing Reminders posters
Oct 29, 2018These posters were developed to promote the SmartSexResource service through which people can sign-up to receive STI testing and vaccine (hepatitis, HPV) reminders by email and text. Each poster is formated to be printed on 11" x 17" paper. These posters can be used in clinics, health centres, community centres, schools, etc. Printed copies of these posters can also be ordered from the BC Centre for Disease Control by emailing SmartSexResource.


Capacity Assessment Instrument for People who misuse Substances (CAIPS)
Oct 29, 2018A tool developed to assist nurses with determining if their clients lack capacity to consent. This 11-item questionnaire consists of statements that nurses can rate on a scale of 1-4, with higher scores indicating higher levels of consent.
